Four places are confirmed against a public source: a competition arena, a multi-sport complex, a children's school and a free outdoor court. Beyond those, amateur volleyball in Chișinău runs mostly on community organizing — two Telegram groups put together pickup games almost daily, indoors and out, for anyone short a full team.
The confirmed places
| Place | Address | What's there |
|---|---|---|
| Arena Chișinău | Stăuceni, Calea Orheiului 130 | FIVB-standard competition hall, for matches and tournaments |
| Olimpia sports complex | Bd. Decebal 72 | Volleyball alongside basketball, tennis and gymnastics |
| Speranța Sports School | Str. Ion Creangă 47/2, Buiucani | Free volleyball and basketball for children from age 9 |
| Beach volleyball court — Valea Trandafirilor Park | Botanica sector | Open access, free, no booking |
This list isn't exhaustive — it includes only what could be confirmed against an official or municipal page. A few private halls are said to host volleyball too, but couldn't be verified directly, so they aren't listed here.
What sets each place apart
Arena Chișinău, in Stăuceni, is the country's largest hall, built to the International Volleyball Federation's design criteria. The complex's central building — called simply "Arena" — is built for basketball, volleyball, handball and mini-football, with changing rooms, a training hall and retractable stands. The main arena hosts top-level competitions; the smaller one, seating up to 275 for sports matches, suits smaller events. This isn't a place for a casual game with friends — it's where competitions are run.
The Olimpia sports complex, on Bulevardul Decebal, is an older multi-sport venue where volleyball sits alongside basketball, freestyle wrestling, gymnastics and tennis. No public rate for volleyball turned up there — the complex publishes prices only for gymnastics, boxing and tennis — so a direct call remains the reliable way to check.
Speranța Sports School, in Buiucani, is built for children: volleyball and basketball are taught free, from age 9 up, across more than 70 training groups that also cover gymnastics and wrestling. Enrollment typically opens in August.
The beach volleyball court in Valea Trandafirilor Park is the only place on this list where you need nothing but a ball and enough people — open access, no booking, no fee. The city built and fenced the court, and the project includes sun loungers and a double changing cabin. It suits a spontaneous weekend game, not competitive training.
How to join a game without a full team
Amateur volleyball in Chișinău runs mostly through online communities rather than clubs. Two stand out:
Volei.md is a small group that plays "all over Chișinău, indoors and out" — on sand, grass, whatever surface fits — in anything from 2v2 to 6v6, on weekdays and weekends. Game schedules circulate through a Telegram channel rather than a public calendar.
VoleiNet is the larger community, also active on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, with a stated goal of "creating a map of the country's volleyball courts and halls" — which confirms, from the source itself, that no such public inventory exists yet. The group organizes games, tournaments and training sessions and can be reached directly at +373 688 599 77.
Both work on the same principle: you can show up without a team or experience, and the game forms on the spot.
The court and the net, briefly
If you've never played: a standard volleyball court is 9 by 18 metres, split into equal halves by a net one metre wide. The top of the net sits 2.43 metres above the centre of the court for men's competition and 2.24 metres for women's; the height differs for juniors and veterans. The rule is the same at any hall affiliated with the international federation, Arena Chișinău included — none of the places on this list publish those figures on their own site, but it's worth knowing what to expect before you step on court.
Organized beach volleyball
Beyond pickup games, Chișinău also has a competitive beach volleyball circuit. Victoria Beach Volley Club has run tournaments — Moldova Open, Chișinău Open, Moldova Beach Cup — since the early 2010s, with a competition calendar kept active through 2026. It points to a small but consistent community beyond the casual park games.
Sporta MD covers football, basketball, volleyball and tennis. This article exists because, unlike the other three sports, volleyball in Chișinău still has no public list of where it's played — not even the VoleiNet community has finished building one.
