Football pitches in Chișinău

Chișinău has more football pitches than any other sport, and the good evening slots go first. Pick the format, the venue and the hour — you can bring a full squad or join a match that is short of players.

What the numbers mean

5v5, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11.

The format is the number of players per side, keeper included. 7v7 is the realistic weeknight choice: fourteen people, a pitch in nearly every district, and a full hour of actual football.

Surfaces

3G, grass or indoor hall

Most Chișinău pitches are 3G artificial turf — it drains fast, so light rain is not a cancellation. Natural grass plays softer but closes in heavy rain. From December to March, indoor halls are the reliable option.

  • 3G turf — short studs or turf trainers
  • Natural grass — moulded studs
  • Indoor hall — non-marking soles

What it costs

400–1200 lei per hour

Priced per pitch, not per player. Split across a squad that is roughly 60–120 MDL each. Evenings cost the most.

Paying from abroad

Visa & Mastercard

Card payment runs through MAIB, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. Foreign-issued cards work; you are charged in MDL.

Frequently asked questions

About football.

How much does it cost to book a football pitch in Chișinău?

Pitches are priced per hour for the whole pitch, generally 400–1200 MDL depending on size, surface and time of day. Five-a-side in the afternoon sits at the bottom of that range; a full-size pitch between 19:00 and 21:00 sits at the top. Divided across a squad it usually works out at 60–120 MDL per player.

What do 5v5, 7v7 and 11v11 mean?

They are the number of players per side, goalkeeper included, and they decide the pitch size. 5v5 (five-a-side) is played on roughly 40 × 20 m, 7v7 on about 60 × 40 m, and 11v11 on a full-size pitch of 90–120 m by 45–90 m. Most casual games in Chișinău are 5v5 or 7v7.

Can I pay with a foreign card?

Yes. Payments are processed by MAIB and accept Visa and Mastercard issued outside Moldova, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. You are charged in Moldovan lei (MDL), so your bank applies its own exchange rate. Payment is online only — there is no pay-at-the-venue option.

Does anyone at the pitch speak English?

It varies by venue, and you rarely need it: the booking, the payment and the player list all happen in the app, which is available in English, so arriving with a confirmed slot is usually the whole interaction. Russian is widely spoken across Chișinău, and younger staff at the newer complexes generally speak some English.

Do I need a full team to play?

No. You can create an open match and share the link, and other players sign up individually until it fills — or you can join someone else's open match. That is the usual route for someone new to the city who has not built a group yet.

What happens if it rains?

3G artificial pitches drain quickly and stay playable in light rain. Natural grass pitches may close in heavy rain to protect the surface. If a match is cancelled more than 36 hours before kick-off, the payment is refunded automatically to the card used.
